ESCATEC doubles up on ESG activities

During a recent strategy meeting in Penang, ESCATEC’s senior management team agreed to intensify its activities relating to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.

The management team are committed to allocating additional resources to further cement sustainability practices into its business operations. This includes expanding existing initiatives to boost sustainable manufacturing, minimise environmental impacts, expand social responsibility activities, and strengthen sound corporate governance.

Further steps to further reduce ESCATEC’s carbon footprint have been drafted by strengthening adoption of Scope 1, 2, and 3, as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (a methodology developed by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development to guide organisations on reporting and managing their carbon footprint).

To reduce its Scope 2 emissions, ESCATEC will implement more energy-efficient technologies and increase its use of renewable energy sources. The Group will also further improve its waste management capabilities to reduce waste output to a minimum, which will reduce Scope 1 emissions.

In the area of social responsibility, ESCATEC will increase spending on environmental protection projects, take more measures to benefit its employees - such as further encouraging diversity and inclusion and enabling more career pathways – and will also support more local community events.

Reflecting ESCATEC’s continued focus to ESG principles, the senior management recently visited “The Habitat Penang” (a rainforest biosphere reserve on Penang’s famous Bukit Bendera, also known as Penang Hill) to get their hands dirty planting “pollinator-friendly” trees and shrubs.

The plants have initially been placed into pots to give them some time to grow and for the roots to mature, and after several months will be transplanted into the rainforest. Just a simple example of our commitment towards building a better future for everyone.
